Default McGaughy's Air Bag Kit Question

Installed the McGaughy's 2/4 drop. Now I'm installing the 2/4 air bag kit on my 05 GMC 1/2 ton with stock 17" wheels. Before installing the air line I put the wheels on to make sure the bags were not rubbing on the tires or the air bag bracket. Man they're close to the tires. I've not had any air in them yet and the truck is still on jackstands. Do the air bags shrink up and get taller when they're inflated. On my 93 gmc with 4/6 drop and 10" wide wheels I had Air Lift bags and they were skinny and tall and had plenty of room.

Will there be more room after everything is aired up and sitting on the ground.

I'll try to get pictures on here. There's some nice trucks here.

Thanks,
Corey

I had no problems... and I am running a 275 tire on a 20" rim... installed my bag kit TODAY!

Here's a couple of pics...

Key is to not rub on the bag bracket or the tire... I moved the bag as close to the bag bracket as possible. Still had plenty of room on the inside (not rubbing the bracket)... and the outside as shown in the first pic.

(edit) Don't forget there are adjustements to move the bag closer to the bag bracket (frame)... in the end just don't have the bag rub ANYWHERE!.

Bill

PS.. I am running a Belltech 2/3 drop... and the (tech) lady at McGaughy's is (obvbiously) less than helpful unless its a McGaughy's drop. Directions told me to line up the bracket with the rear 4 holes of the C-Notch bracket... well... McGaughy's does NOT sell a 4" drop C-Notch bracket... so their directions are BOGUS! I confirmed today with one of their distributors that is in indeed OK to run a McGaughy's bag kit on a non-McGaughy's drop kit... with NO C-Notch... directly to the frame. So, if you have stacked the bag bracket on a C-Notch bracket it WILL move the bag bracket over closer to the tires!

... and yes... it raised my truck up in the rear a good inch (at the recommended MINIMUM pressure of 5 PSI)... not complaining here... tired of bottoming out!... as you can see from my rock hard axle bump stops that Belltech supplied!

OH YA!!!!

IF YOU EVER unload the suspension... with a bag setup you MUST pay attention as to NOT let the weight of the suspension PULL!!! on the bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the help. Everything works great. Air bag space is good, one side has more than the other. I did not find the Mcgaughy's instructions too good. I've used other air bags so I know that the axle needs to be supported and to check the air lines to make sure there are no leaks. Mcguaghys doesn't say anything about that. The biggest part they left out was "Do the air bags go in front or behind the axle?" The AirLift bags I had on my 93 went in front, so I figure that's right. Their illustration can be looked at being the right or left side. Their picture had rear disc. Mine have drums. I finally just called them and they said to the rear of axle. Also on their spindles they say you have to grind the lower ball joint stud off flush, but they don't tell you to trim part of the brake shield off because the capiler won't fit til you do. Oh well, thanks for the help.

Are you running the spindles for the 17" or larger rims? I got those laying in a box right now. I'm getting ready to swap those in and trash the Belltech springs... the ride is terrible with them. Thanks for the pointers on the spindles...

Bill,

Yeah I got the 17+ spindles. When you grind that lower ball joint stud off it is still real close. But it's not rubbed or anything.
