A mechanical temp sensor will need to be mounting in the pan. I also read over in LS1 Tech, Chuck recommended electric sensor to be mounted in the pan not the pressure port, because the sensor will obstruct the flow of oil in the tranny.

Another option you can do is install a cluster with a tranny temp gauge.

You're probably gonna laugh but here goes Install it in the drain plug or is there another port?

That will work until you go over a speed bump, tire in the middle of road, or anything that will get under your truck.

I'd go that route. A little expensive, but you get a nice factory tranny temp gauge, a 120mph speedo and it will just look better.

I have an Autometer electric trans temp gauge, and I used the port right above the linkage on the drivers side. My experience so far is that it reads damn good here. Have compared it to what my wifes Yukon reads at operating temp, and it is dead on. Easy install, sensor was same thread as test port.

Mag Hytec pans have an 1/8" NPT port for temp gauges. Extremely high quality cast aluminum deep pans... expensive but, IMO, worth it.

As I mentioned earlier, Chuck at FLT does not recommend installing a sensor in the pressure service port because it will create a flow problem.
