Since I'm not from Mexico, I do have a slight issue with the wheels sticking out much, sonoran style.
I would'nt worry about 18's if I was'nt also going to go some bigger brakes for the road course outings.
I've run the pirelli scorpions with stock gm 16' rims. When really running the road course very hard, the pirellis seemed lacking (definitly the brakes were), but then a 5500lb truck running the road course is bound to be hard on everything. Luckily the C3 is an awd setup, and traction issues have been minimal running low 13's to this point with thw whipple sc. Hopefully the twin turbo setup will create more of a traction issue?

Were Talking (1/4-1/2) an inch past the fender well, At most.
And considering are choices of 28-29" tall street legal drag radials are limited makes it even more intersting.

I believe that super finish is polished and clear coated. That wheel is a close copy of a Weld Velocity 8. They are available in super finish or chrome in the 6 X 5.5 bolt pattern.
38lb's is prety heavy. i wonder what some of these other wheels weigh.
edit... based on our wheel/tire list it looks like these rims are 6-10lb's heavier than some. lets say 8lb x 4 = 32lbs total then double it for rotaing mass to 64lb's. thats probably about .05sec. hmmmm is .05sec and the exact backspacing i want worth $1500?

Yes I figure you are looking at up to 10lbs per wheel depending on what you compare them too. I believe that the wheels are cast not forged and the reason for most of the extra weight. The clear finish is warranted for a year and the chrome for 5 years I think but would need to check to be sure. I would go for the chrome unless you don't mind buffing out blemishes after a year. The super finish will not stand up to road dirt and salt like we have here in the winter. The stock wheels on my truck are showing pit marks that corrode after 2 years. They still look good but if you get up close you can see the corrosion starting. They also will not last well around the wheel weights if you balance them a lot and if you change tires very often that will cause signs of wear as well.
As for the performance hit vs the dollar savings I guess you try to spend scarce resources where they will do the most good and I know you are the best judge of that.
