Default My 2WD has torsion bars...?

Hey guys, I did a little looking around and couldn't find an answer to why my 2WD has torsion bars and a steering gear box front end instead of coil springs and a rack and pinion set up.

The truck is a 2004 GMC Sierra SLT 2WD.

I figured out that my truck was odd when I noticed that every lowering kit I looked at for it is made for a truck with coil springs.

Anyone know why my truck is setup this way?

They make lowering kits for your truck. Any kit that will work on a 4wd, will work on yours

I figured that was what I would need to do, and that's fine, but really i'm just more curious as to why it has the torsion bars in the first place.

Gotcha, thanks, still learning some of the truck specifics

EDIT: I just google searched VHO and a bunch of pictures of trucks came up that look just like mine (mainly the wheels is what I mean by that, rare to have 20's back then and I have always wondered about those wheels)

I said no at first but now I am starting to wonder. I assumed those were the trucks with the VMAX emblem and I also thought they had 6.0's.

Again, I am still learning special-model specifics on the trucks.
