Default My impression of Toyo Proxies

After having them in my truck for a week now all I can say is these tires rock. Handling and traction is so much better compared to the stock Generals 255/70's.

that was my initial impression too but wait until you drive them in the rain. wet traction sucks and it seems like they dont hook as good after a few good burns. i will say that they wear awesome though. glad you like them

This is one way to know which tires will grip or handle better:
Look at the treadwear # on the tire.
A tire with a tread wear of 200 through 450 will grip better. Though the trade off is the decreased tread life.
Almost all V, Z, & W rated tires have low tread wear numbers.
The higher the tread wear number the longer they last (Also a heavy foot plays a part in this as well) .
That's just one rule to use. There are other factors as well.
Like; tread design, contact patch, rubber compound, and sidewall hidth.
The more sidewall you have the better it is for traction, although a taller sidewall takes away from handling.
There is always that give and take scenario!

Jim ratings on the tires are great and all but you can in no way use that to judge a tire IMO. The hated Goodyear GT IIs look good on paper but most that ahve them cant wait to get rid of them.

the joe gibbs i raced a few weeks ago was on the gt2's and dead hooked while i struggled for traction with the toyos. ofcorse i think they are 305's and on the 20's too but the launch is where he got me.

You also have a stall and putting down close to the power he is even with the blower. You are putting alot more power to the ground right off the line than he is even with a radix. Plus like you mentioned the bigger/heavier tire combo. I have two friends that have 20 with the GT IIs on there and they both hate them. Many other people on here have complained about those tires too. I think I will be going with them anyway since my turck isnt driven when its raining anyway and I have auto 4wd for low traction situations

Are you sure the Gibbs was on GTIIs? I thought they came with the 275/55 Goodyear LS like the SS trucks? Not much better, but they are an improvement.
