99 silverado shifts from 1 to 3 and will not pull in reverse

well tell us more.....

do you have command 2nd gear using the gear selector? Is the tranny fluid smelling burnt. Are there metal shavings in your tranny pan?

But short answer-probably yes.

If you do not have reverse and only have 1 and 3 with no overdrive it sounds as if you broke the sunshell in the tranny, that is a common failure!
If it is the sunshell which im almost 100% sure it is, Yes your tranny is gone!
i drove mine around for like 5000 miles like that!

have you checked your tranny fluid? how many miles are on it? do you drive agressively or tow with it, any possibility the tranny was overworked or overheated?

not everybody drives the **** out of their trucks. when i drive my 454SS on the street i never take it over 60-65, at the track i make a run and give it about 30 mins to cool down

You definitely have a broken shell. I would recommend when you have it replaced that you go with a Beast sun shell. We do offer the FLT beast which is a modified version with a bearing and a custom machined low roller race.
