Default is my tranny gone !?!?!?

hey guys i have a 1997 chevy pickup and last week at a red light my truck would not go into any gear at all. it wouldnt go into reverse or any of the other gears. do you guy think my transmission is dead or could it be a simpler fix. let me know...... i hope its not the tranny that went bad

Have you checked the fluid level?

Is it on the original transmission? 99.6%$ sure you're in need of a rebuild!

Just did a rebuild on my 96 ' last month. Overdrive wouldnt kick in it just went into 1-2-3 and reverse.

mine is not going into any gear at all!!!!! no reverse!! no 1st!!!! no 2nd!!!! no 3rd!!! and of course no OD !!!!!

yeah i checked the fluid and it looks clean and up to the correct level.

Check the fluid with the vehicle's engine running. If the level is over the the hash marks, then check to make sure the pump is circulating fluid. You can do this by pulling the trans line at the top right side of the radiator. If fluid spews out, that's good. If not, pump's broke. Pumps do not give warning before failure. When it's gone, it's gone.

sounds like the pump is gone . . . Skeet just had the same thing happen to him. he had no gears at all.

Replaced the pump, and everything is working.

YES AND NOW I AM PULLING THE DAMN TRANNY!!!!

NO TO ***** YOUR thread bro but i dont have 1st gear i can take off in second just fine reverse is there also.... i can rev it up in drive and it will finally go and catch.... anyway tranny shop said they will pull it this time


1bad and tootall are correct more then likely its the pump, theres no signs until it goes, glad it happened to me just down the street from where i live i probably got 1k ( refundable) in towing expenses, and the wife wonders why i paid so much ins.. or keep so much ins...

well today is the first time i look under my truck since i towed it home and there is tranny fluid all over the floor!!! i looked for a leak with the truck on but it wasnt squirting out anything. the only think that i found was a wet spot where the driveshaft goes into the tranny. could this still be a possible pump problem and if so about how much does the pump cost, and how hard is the install.
