I'm about to go through with this as well. I'm hoping I can tear into it around Halloween. Now that you've mentioned flexplate something occurred to me.

What years had the longer crankshaft and no flexplate spacer? Mine is a 2000 silverado 5.3L.

I'll be swapping in a 4L80E and NP149 with a SC3000 stall converter. My stall converter has a 3 bolt, bolt pattern. The 5.3L has the 3 bolt pattern as well.

I'm actually planning on swapping in a 6.0L later next year. I'm wondering if my 5.3L flexplate will work on the 6.0. I'm not 100% sure if I have the 3 bolt pattern with spacer or not.

Maybe the longer crank snout was only a 6.0L thing. I'll have to dig through my notes.

EDIT- Disregard what I said. It was the early iron headed 6.0L that had the oddball longer crank. It looks like my 5.3L flexplate will bolt up to my 6.0L.

The 5.3 flex plate will bolt up, but not to the 6.0 converter. The 5.3 converter is a 3 bolt pattern vs the 6.0's 6 bolt. That and the 6.0 pattern is a hair spread out.

I was looking at modifying mu cross member for the tranny but why cant I remove the rubber mount and ad a plate of 3/8 steel as an adapter? That way the cross member don't get cut and all the bolt holes line up. all I would have to do is cut a 5.5x6.5 plate and bolt it to the cross member and then bolt the rubber mount to the plate. I will gusset it from underneith for added strength. All it would do is increase the height by 3/8" but that can be compensated by spacing the cross member lower by that if need be. Also in shortening the driveshaft. Can I just cut off the 2.5" from the hollow splined end?

As for the VSS wiring give Nelson performance a call they have a conversion harness. Your going to need to get your driveshaft shortened not just the yoke. I wouldnt plug the cooler lines because without a cooler, a tranny will get real hot real fast. Unless your only driving a mile or two. If using a stock 80e converter you will need a flex plate off of a 01-06 and you will need the spacer.
