Default Need to bounce some failed 4L80e trans symptons off someone.

Finally have everything I need to get the trans out of the truck and it actually made it to my shop lol. I noticed a few more problems now that may lead to the failure. When it broke I just shoved it in the garage till I could gather all the parts I needed to go through it.

Here is what the trans does after a pass on the highway.

Starts off in 3rd gear
Will shift to 4th but sometime rattles and clunks
Will shutter and rattle when the TCC locks
If the shifter is in first, the truck will not move, feels like a trans brake, converter will just stall
Trans overheats, 15 mile drive to the shop, trans temp at 275ish, trans overheating light came on
Trans cooler lines ice cold
Reverse is normal

Im pulling the trans apart with one of my trans guys so I can really see what goes into these things. We are using all sorts of billet stuff so it should be a stout trans when done.

Im just curious what could have happened to get a better idea of what to look for when in there.

With the trans hot and the cooler cold I would have to say you had a converter failure . The cooler is likley blocked with clutch material. Thats about the only way material can get in there and stop it up .

That was it, got the trans apart and found the TCC blew up, clutch material everywhere.
