Default Need Help! See what ya think!

Just did a 4l80 swap on my SSS, had a segment swap done and everything.. Driving normally, the tranny gauge never gets over 180 really, has gotten to 200, but I can be driving and the a msg will come up on the bottom saying "transmission hot".. tuner says he believes the gauge is right, might be a glitch, I just want a second opinion really..

Unfortunately the stepper motors in the cluster have been known to fail. What does the tuning software say as far as the temp goes??? If the Tuning software is getting the same value then your gauge should be correct.

If it reads higher then the stepper motor in the cluster is bad. If your tuners not willing to even look at that, then the best thing would be to have a trans guy look at it and at least see if the Trans is working properly or if it has something else is wrong?

Yea the tuner would be more than happy, he's just a good distance away. I'm trying to get a buddy of mine to hook his snap-on software up and see if it tells tranny temp but he's not there today I don't believe. I don't know of my scanner will tell tranny temperature or not, but I see what you're saying, I just figured even if the motor was bad I figured it would either not move at all, or just have the wrong value, but who knows.. Do you know of anyone who has replaced the motor themselves? I would die if I had to get rid of this cluster beings I've already soldered red LEDs all in it lol, and that's not fun..

Several people have done it them self's. You can buy a repair kit with new stepper motors from Ebay. I believe there is a how to on here if not search Google and You Tube. I know I have seen several people document it.

This thread shows what they look like... basically you desolder and resolder.
