Default Need Recomendation

Hey guys...Driving my truck this weekend in some brutal heat it began to slip. I was in the middle of a 50 mile trip so it just got worse and i had to come back that night. I barely limped home but made it.

It is in the shop getting looked at as we speak. Im counting on a worst case scenario. Truck has 80K on the clock and tranny was rebuilt about 40K ago..long story..ill admit im hard on my truck, but im not puttin that much power through this thing. What causes slipping? Especially prematurely?

If it is worst case would a FLT Level 3 be too much? I just want something strong and reliable and an 80E is way to costly at this point. Opinions???

Thanks

Matt

Just heard from the tranny guy and it doesnt sound good. Busted planetary more than likely. So my options were a GM reman with 3 year warranty for around 2200 or a performance build with a 2 year warranty. Im having him give me a detailed list of whats going back in. I asked for the HD-2 and a 2500 stall. So hopefully some good will come of this...Still feels like its goin in with no lube..

Well, for an additional $250 (plus refundable core charge), you could have (for comparison purposes only, not to push a bandwagon) an FLT L5 listed here (along with the lesser priced L4 & L3). The question you need to answer is what's your ultimate performance goal with regards to increasing your truck's performance over stock. An L4 might do for you for mild performance upgrades (i.e. full bolt-ons, N/A power)... extreme upgrade being an FI upgrade.

FLT is just one of PT's sponsors. They (site sponsors) will try to help you determine what's best for your application. Poke around, and see what fits ya. If you're comfy with the local shop's quality of work, feel free to go that route. Just make sure they are REALLY good at "beefing up" the trans. I can't stress that enough!

Thanks for the info. I agree. If i was planning on any more power id just eat it and go 4l80. But i just need a functional pickup right now. And i have a great relationship with this guy and he offered me a great warranty. So im gonna see what his price is and make a decision. First he has to dive in a find out what wrong for sure.
