New Tires !! - Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G052's
After a near-accident involving a blind semi driver and a stretch of uneven pavement on the highway I had to replace all 4 tires last week while on vacation....The details aren't worth explaining but the result is:
I went with Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G052's in 285-50/20....while the compound hardness and speed rating weren't exactly what I'd had in mind while shopping for tires (or, in fact, were never a combination I'd have ever considered before) I'm definitely NOT sorry I bought these !!
These things have GRIP !!....I thought my Hankook Ventus RHO6's were good when new, these blow the Hankooks out of the water and are rated as a MUCH harder tire (300 vs. 460)
Handling is ALOT better.....while the Hankooks cornered good these stick so hard that I'm painfully aware of the need for suspension work now.
Braking is AMAZING !!....I've been without ABS for over two years now and panic stops are a bit scary sometimes due to the rear-end having a tendancy to swing out hard, with these new Geolanders I've only been able to lock the rears once....and I was REALLY TRYING to lock 'em !!
The ride quality is UNBELIEVABLE !!, I've grown use to having a sucky ride due to the 20's and tires I've had (GTII's and Hankooks) but these make the truck feel like it's on 16's again when it comes to soaking up bumps and potholes !!
All in all I would reccomend these to anyone looking for a 20" tire in a 285-50/20 or 275/55-20 (stock Silverado SS). Overall height for the 285-50/20 is 31.3"

i had those on my y2k silverado and they scalloped at 3k miles, woop woop down the road after very few miles. get your alignment
done and rotate freguently, other than that I agree with all you say.
ironically, because of the scalloping, I put hankooks on my current truck and they are wearing ok
