New tranny and TQ questions
Hey guys after 187,xxx miles my 99 4L60E is giving up the fight.
I have a reputable tranny builder lined up to do the work (he has built a couple different trannys for me before, 1 is in my 10 sec. Buick).
I don't have the money for a high dollar tranny nor do I need one, but I do drive "spiritedly" and tow fairly often, so my questions are
1. Are there any upgrades that would be considered manditory? He's going to do a shift kit for me, is there anything else that won't break the bank??
2. If I go ahead with his "performance rebuild" with a shift kit, will I be able to remove all of my TQ management?? TQ in my personal opinion is the dumbest **** GM ever did, if the tranny wasn't strong enough to hold the power the stock motor makes then they should have fixed the tranny not derated the motor to make it live.
BTW my truck is stock stock stock but now that I am digging into the tranny and I have already built a rear end for it a few thousand miles ago I'm looking to do some bolt on's but nothing crazy until the motor goes...Then it could get interesting.
Thanks for any input.

I thought these truck already had a transcooler setup on them? It's a Z71 if it matters.
I didn't know if servo was 1st on the list or not, time to go servo shopping I suppose.

If its out, and being rebuilt, then I would consider it mandatory to do at least the following-
Borg Warner double cage sprag- $35
Beast sunshell- $50
Metal accumulator pistons- $20
I would recommend doing a shift kit also, either the HD-2 kit or the SK kit. I usually don't build a trans with at least those items.
