nitrous on a stock 4l60e
#11
I ran 6 bottles (125 shot) through my completely stock 60e before it went bad. The vette servos really help a lot, are cheap (under $20) and only take a few minutes to install, it would probably help for a while anyways.

"If anything, spray thru the shift. The loading, unloading, shift, then another jolt is harder on parts than just adding the power and letting the trans do it's thing.
" I don't know where you heard this, BUT NO, spraying though the shift is the hardest on it. Once the 2-3 shift is "complete", you can add a couple of hundred horsepower and you should be ok. Once the clutches "are on", it takes a lot of horsepower to break them loose. If adding 200HP were to break the clutches loose, then your 3-4 clutch pack is on its way out.

I agree with not breaking them loose once the clutch has been applied. But as you must know, the 3rd clutch is on borrowed time the first time you turn the key on one of these units.
I'm just speaking on what I've seen personally doing it both ways and seeing the aftermath and what the parts look like inside the trans. I'm also speaking more about the geartrain and hardparts than just clutches. But I do see your position on it. I can see a stock trans and a small shot, deactivating the kit during the shift but as the power levels get up there and you have a properly built trans I'd be more inclined to let er rip.

I love this topic! As we all know the 2-3 shift is a timing thing and I have always been told to run a window switch because of this. The issue being is the band releases and then the 3-4 clutch must be applied to complete 3rd gear. In a unit that just adds another clutch like an 80 or a 400 I do not see an issue with this. However I have been asked this question in the past and then debated this concept with forced induction applications using the 4l60E. The question asked is why do this with nos but look the other way in boosted applications? I was then told its kind of the same thing! Well I guess I would have to agree however maybe we can get a boost controller for a turbo application. Now what do we do with blower applications...........

Yeah, I know some of those fancy pants controllers out there that will allow you to completely open the wastegate(s) right before and during the shift, then close right as it's completing or immediately after, the bad thing here is killing that momentum and having to accumulate the gas pressure and heat again to get back to full boost. On the street not such a big deal, on the track though that may be the difference in a personal best and a crap pass lol.
With a blower and the tq they generate for the most part, I'd say build it right, and cross your fingers and close your eyes and mash the pedal not much you can do here unless you add tq mgmt back in your tune in the way of jerking a bunch of timing or actually closing the throttle if you have ETC.

Ive sprayed over 20 bottles of a 150 shot on my stock 60e and about to go up to a 200 shot. I do manually shift and spray through gears. It does have a vette servo and tune with upped line pressure but it's still holding strong!!
