for instance... (if i couldn't get a set of NT01s,) i'd use NT05s on a road course long before 555Rs, but 555Rii would be even better than the NT05s. i'd never run an NT05R around a road course... at least not driving hard, anyway.

conversely, i'd pick the new Rii (not old ones) or the NT05R for drag racing.

I think there is some confusion regarding old design (discontinued in 2014?) vs new clean slate design on the 555Rii. Nitto previously made a 555R2 designed for AWD/FWD applications with stiffer sidewalls vs first gen 555R for steering compliance. The 555Rii being referred to by the OP is a new re-designed offering. There is no mention in Nitto's description linking it to support lateral traction or steering compliance.

The NT555RII is a D.O.T.-compliant competition drag radial designed with additional flexibility for the weekend drag racer. The high-grip compound and semi-racing construction provide increased traction at the starting line, while the large circumferential grooves aid wet handling on your way to the drag strip.
or from reviews...

So we took everything good about 555R and 05R, improved all areas, and added wet performance.
Therefore I will stand by my previous statement... Better traction than an NT05 with good wet manners make this a very appealing choice, comparable to the MT SS, for a street driven application.

well i did just say there was an apparent redesign, but it's been more recent than 2014.

I was also looking at these after finding they have a 305/22. Not sure if I should get 2 for rear or all 4 so they match. I have a 2016 4wd crewcab. I am getting it back this week , hoping to be 550 ish at rear wheels. Dont know if I should be worried about breaking stuff if I get to launching hard from drag radial

I forgot to mention, that's the only drivetrain component that I've upgraded....I have a thicker wall than stock and 5" diameter
