Default no 4X4 lights, actuator?

the lights on my push button switches in my '99 went out. There is normally a light indicating 2wd, 4hi, 4lo or auto, but now no lights. I replaced the pushbutton switch with no results, checked the fuses. The 4x4 fuse wasn't initially blown, but I noticed it being blown after installing the new switch. Replaced the fuse and it hasn't blown yet, but still no lights. It would be nice to have the 4x4 again, but I don't want to go into the whole throw money at it until it's fixed routine. Can't find much to help by searching. Thanks.

Just throwing this out there.
Did you check the plug that hooks to the transfer case?
