You previously said that the measurement from the engine bell housing mount to the flex plate mount point is .875 without the spacer which is in spec. That leaves the spacer in my mind. Can you mount it backwards? Is it to thick? Is it seated all the way in. Have you bolted It In?

Brian - The transmission is up against something solid, it doesn't move no matter how much pressure I put to it. I will give it another shot tomorrow though.
KySilverado - It is a 4L80E I'm putting in. I've already heard that 1 1/8" is the spec for it also.
I could take the spacer out and use shims between the converter and flexplate but, from what I'm hearing no 4L80E swap has been done where the spacer wasn't used. The spacer only mounts one way and even if you could flip it around it would still be the same thickness.
Here is a short version of what I'm seeing.
block to stock flexplate(where converter lugs touch it) = .875"
block to SFI flexplate = ~.875"
block to either flexplate with spacer = ~1 5/16"
bellhousing face to converter mounting lugs(where they hit flexplate) = 1 1/8"
The flexplate measurements are correct. The bellhousing measurements are correct. The converter hub is hitting the flat surface behind the engagement points(I'd bet on it). The converter hub and converter are still showing they could go in further if it wasn't hitting that flat surface. That would really screw up the bellhousing to lug measurement if the converter went in any further.
I will be calling a tranny guy tomorrow to talk with them about some things to check.

They would both give me about 1/4" clearance without the spacer. Did you have to use any shims? I'd need right around 1/8"+ of shims.

Thanks grippy for the explanation of SFI but, I meant to say (don't know what brand it is)
I think it is safe to say that the bellhousing to converter measurement I have is either on the high side or within spec depending on what page you look at.
