Check it with a mechanical gauge first. Don't screw with rods or mains I've had em come in sobs ticking for miles and gauge on 0 or very low pressure they survive most everytime and live to see the road again.
Tick pretty much says no oil up top. Save yourself hassle of multiple times dicking with it wasted oil and gaskets. Change oil pump and o ring at same time and problems solved. I've had more than one of those early 5.3 the bypass hung on especially older high milers. If your doing it yourself and just have time on your hands you can try o ring first but if you wanna fix it once and first time do the above.

I was on the highway when my message center caught my eye with a bright red ENGINE OVERHEATED message. I checked my mirrors to see if I could safely pull over, and there was a big cloud of steam 🚂 behind me. A heater hose burst and I lost all the coolant.

The message center would let you know if the engine overheated while you owned the truck.

On a side note, the next time I started it, the message center told me to change the oil. I had recently changed it, and when I Googled it, the answer was that when you overheat your engine, the PCM wants you to change the oil.
