If you have the 2 piece drive shaft sometimes when they are lowered a shim kit is required for the carrier bearing....

No, those are usually in the extended cab trucks.

a quick gearing question to you guys. for a rcsb truck with a 6L which trans would you prefer?
•2.66 1st Gear
•1.78 2nd Gear
•1.30 3rd Gear
•1.00 4th Gear
•0.80 5th Gear
•0.63 6th Gear
•2.90 Reverse

or this one?
•2.97 1st Gear
•2.10 2nd Gear
•1.46 3rd Gear
•1.00 4th Gear
•0.74 5th Gear
•0.50 6th Gear
•2.90 Reverse

I like 1st gear on the second one but i'm thinking over all the first option might be better because once the truck was geared for a happy overdrive I think 1st and 2nd gears might be too short with the second option above.

edit. after playing with a gear calculator, I do think I would like the second option best. I use a 275/40/20 tire showing 28.66" tall. using 4.56 gearing puts me at 1871rpm at 70 in 6th. I believe that is okay for my truck and first gear will shift at 38mph if at 6000rpm.

the other trans had first gear probably too tall and 6th gear at 70mph was more rpm with the 4.56 gears than my 4l60e has me at currently using 3.55 gears.

Definitely the second set. You will want that shorter first gear to get the big heavy truck moving (and to save your clutch). The taller 6th will give you good fuel economy on the highway. Best of both worlds.

thanks guys. once I put it all in a calculator and compared to stock trucks I agreed with your suggestions.

has anyone on here looked into this differential mounted reluctor ring? the part number in this pdf is wrong though. it says 4l60-006 is for 8.5/8.6 diffs but a search pulls that up for s10 sized diffs. just thinking out loud it looks simple enough and might save tuning issues and cruse control issues ect.

i had no issue putting a 4l60 reluctor on mine. hardest part is knocking roll pin out
if you have a viper shaft then you will have to get the hole opened up to fit your shaft
