is it the same from the 88-98 and the 99 and up though?

I'd have to crawl under my 95 and see but i'm 99% sure the mounting to the frame is different. I've had the tranny out of both several times.

I would think the at least the 2000-2006 1500 series trucks should all share, since they share everything else. Hell a Manual was not even an option on my Avalalnche during any of its production years and the firewall has got the needed stuff on it for the Clutch Pedal to go in! Gotta love cross platforming!!!

it's different, frame, and cross member, they mount/bolt in different positions, on the frame, but I don't know about the mounting points. They could all have the same mounting positions. I'm guessing that you would have to get the right cross members.

Hey guys on another note about these swaps, I started this other thread https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...wiring+diagram in an effort to clarify/discuss the wiring needs of doing a Manual swap since it is rather spread out and confusing in this thread…

I have also included a Wiring diagram in that thread that I drew up based on posts in this thread. Please feel free to comment on it and point things I may have missed or may have screwed up. I know there are like two wires that I questioned but, if we can work it out it will be a great reference for someone doing the swap.

well are the 88-98 5 speeds the same as the 99 up v6 and 4.8 5 speeds? if they are and you (turbogibbs) used your stock 5 spd cross member then theoretically i could just get an 88-98 5 spd cross member and it would line up to a t56 right?

not to sure about the 89 bodys but heres an thought for you. a 700r4 and a 4l60e are the same lenght. a T56 and 4l60e are same lenghts as well. so if the T56 works for us it should work for you

theres a guy around pittsburgh that made his 90 454SS into a t56. he used a T56 from a Lt1 car but not sure what he did for Xmember

what are the differences between the lt1 t56s besides the bellhousing bolt pattern?

I am unsure if an early NV3500 5 speed will work, it may. The 88-98 crossmembers ARE different from the late models. The late model 5 speed crossmemebers are different from the automatics I believe. It has already been covered on here i'm sure of.

little up date on my behalf. i recently got my D&D Viper'spec T56 installed along with my new hurst probillet shifter. with this trans you can feel the engagement with shifts. its a positive feeling. the shifter is nice and short along with being stout on movement.

now im not sure if my 6th gear ratio is different or not but with this trans my 70mph cruising speed is now 2200 rpms where i orginally had it calculated for. when i had the liberty proshfited T56 i would be at 1800 rpms at 70mph

also finding a Ujoint to adapt my 30spline slip yoke to the stock driveshaft was a PTA but over all im happy with it


if anyone is wondering a stock T56 is only capable of 450ftlbs of torque and thta is behind a 3400lb car
