The auto reluctor ID is not splined and has a slightly larger ID than the OD of the T56 shaft splines. It's actually pretty close, but not an interference fit. The OD of the auto reluctor is larger by a good amount. I am not sure if it will hit the sensor or not. The auto reluctor is also about 3/4 the width of the T56. I have both reluctors, I was planning on using the auto reluctor but it's definitely not a direct swap.

I may be able to machine down the OD of the T56 reluctor, and enlarge the ID of the auto reluctor, then press the T56 one into the auto, making a splined 40T reluctor with a hub that is the correct width. But it still might hit the sensor. I'm going to experiment with it when I put the T56 back together in a week or two. I think the sensor can be shimmed out slightly. Or perhaps a different sensor would work.

Here's some pics and specs on the relectors:

T56:
OD = 1.810"
ID = 1.182" (hard to measure with splines)
Width = 0.679"

4L60E:
OD = 1.968"
ID = 1.189"
Width = 0.513"

T56 Shaft OD = 1.184 (hard to measure with splines)

The T56 speed sensor could be shimmed out about 0.15" before the o-ring starts to fall out of the seat in the tail housing. According to the math, it would only need to be shimmed out 0.079" to have the same distance between the sensor and the auto reluctor. Assuming you can machine the reluctor to work, seems possible!

Another thought might to use a different speed sensor that is slightly shorter. The auto speed sensor looks similar (minus the bracket), perhaps it's length is different though. Or a sensor from some random car might work.

The 5-speed sensor was a direct fit with the auto reluctor? Or did you shim it? I'm not sure what you mean by "the o ring on it was the stop."

Are you using the automatic reluctor? Any modifications to the reluctor?

Was your truck a factory 5 speed?

Is the automatic reluctor the only option?

Any pics of how you got that sensor to stay in?
