Default OK, so I 'killed' my Forward Clutch Apply Piston in my 4L60E

Anybody ever heard of the heavy duty version of this (steel vs. aluminum stock piece) cracking? The tranny tech says he's never seen this happen before, especially on the heavy duty piece. He says that there must have been an incident, or many incidents, of super high fluid pressure for tha piston to split like it did. There was a hairline stress crack across about half the apply surface that allowed fluid to pass through and wet the 3rd gear clutches and 2nd gear band. $900 in parts and labor later and I'm good to go. Luckily, this was all done under warranty. I'm just curious if anyone else has heard of this particular hard part being destroyed?

It would almost have to be someone reving the motor and dropping it in gear to do that.

I almost wish I had done exactly that just so I would know how it happened, but that just isn't the case. 20 miles on the 2nd rebuild and I have 1st and 2nd slippage. I am starting to think my PCM might be defective...need to get ALlen Nelson to send me a new one to check and see. I hate transmissions...

Local tranny shop here by me, a place called Andrews Advanced Transmission. Owner agreed to a 3 year/36000 mile warranty if he was allowed to build it with parts that he chose (or agreed to). I paid a little more for the parts than if I had purchased them myself, but I figured an expensive rebuild w/ a warranty was better than a cheaper one without a warranty. I basically have a 65E now with front and rear 5 pinion planets, Superior shift kit, billet servo, Z pak clutches, Kevlar wide band, etc.
