I was thinking about your statement and you are correct. It will cause the viscous coupler to heat up and go into hump mode. Then it will overheat and fail. You can't do it with ANY of the AWD tcases. But you could leave a 4wd tcase locked but the front axle uncoupled, right? Not sure what the point is here.

I'd rather have full time AWD with a diff that could lock if needed and turn into 4WD.
