Staying n/a and even with a shot I'd keep a 60E in it. If you're going to turbo it, do the 80E and be done with it...

track times with a N/A 80e?

mines got a best of 12.7 @ 104 with a 1.7 60' spinning.
PI3600, Billet 1-2 and Billet 4th gear servos is ALL it has. 55k miles and kicking strong.

I trapped 101 with a yank 3600 and I estimate I lost probably 15 rwhp with the 80, but I also had a 2.1 60' on street tires. I haven't been yet with slicks so I don't know how that would affect the trap speed or 60'. I can tell you that the 60e with stock stall felt stronger out of the gate and thru 1st gear than the stalled 80.

Some other trucks I know running the 80e was Fredjk with a ext cab cammed 6.0/4l80e ran something like a low 13 @ 99 or 100 mph. Another procharged 6.0 ext cab trapping 104 or 105. So the trap speeds are definitely down compared to the 4l60e.

It's really hard to say exactly what will happen to your times. I can guarantee you though will be slower.

For the DD you'll get worse gas mileage as well.

The benefits of the 80e: awesome WOT shifts, very positive and quick. Unrivaled durability.

I would just roll with your stock trans until it goes.

I would tell you to just do the 80e now because there's no sense in spending $3000 on a level 15 transmission (level 20 will be out 6 months later) only to have to change it out in 2 years. Worst case scenario is that it blows up/fails and then you're really out of the money. If you really do a lot of roll/hwy racing, then the 80e will not be bad at all. It works great from a 60-70 4-2 on the highway. Infact, if I really wanted to I could drop to 2nd at 80 mph with 4.10s. Try that with a 4l60e. The problem is getting up and getting it moving, once it's rolling it's good.

hmmm...

i can drop my 60e into 2nd at 80, but have to shift into 3rd by 93. my 3rd gear doest pull simply bc its only a cam, nothing else.

i need to ride in a truck with a 80e an a 3400/3600 converter. i wanna race one too.
i ran a front mout 6.0/80e he beat me but he didnt walk me like most.
