No, you do your homework. Their LVL5 is already a 4L65E/4L70E which comes with hardened shafts. Thats why there is no need to say what they are.

I believe you are confused between what the difference between a 60 and a 65 and hardened and billet shafts are and what PB told you... A 4l65e is nothing more then a 60 with 5 pinion planets and a "strength-improved output shaft" ( both tranny have hardened shafts from the factory. Which isn't anything impressive, I broke 2 of them. ALL transmissions use hardened shafts, but FLT's level 7 uses billet input/out shafts which over 500rwhp I highly recommend.

These were actually 4l70e output shafts that are supposed to be "cryo" treated GM shafts too.

Oh, and blownss06 I just loaned my shift kit and vette servo only STOCK 4l60e (that was in my truck for 40k boosted miles) to a friend who broke the input shaft on his FLT level 5 that is out of warranty (6 months) and he can't afford to have them fix. Just shows you anything can fall...

OK, I understand now. PB did not mention that. From what I he told me I understood that the 4l60e had regular shafts and the 4l65e hardened shafts. I know that the 65 shafts are nothing to write home about since alot of people have broken them. I guess when i get ready to buy my tranny I will have to look into billet shafts, although PB told me it wasnt necessary. I dynoed at 400hp and 460tq give or take cant really remeber and the way I launch is not hard, I have to easy into it so mabe thats why he told me that.

kbracing96 just an FYI those broken shafts you have posted are shot peened not cryo from the factory. In our level 5 builds I always try to use the best shafts that I have in stock. Input shafts do have an id on them for the better hardened ones to tell us what they are. In any 4x4 unit I always use a good hardened output shaft because we all know that they like to break. A true 4l65E does have some differences that make them a bit stronger. However IMO billet shafts are the best option for these units and that is why we offer them. I know it adds to the price of the trans but IMO it is the piece of mind that you are getting. After 400ish RWHP I feel that a 4l65e based build is a good idea because of the planets and after 450 rwhp a billet shaft is an excellent idea. Vince
