Just got off the phone with performabuilt. I asked about the 4-5 planetary gears and he said it only comes on the lvl3 and that he hasn't had any issues with either. Aslo asked about the hardened input and output shafts, again he hasn't had any issues with his trannys breaking them.

So since I have to baby it of the line, wouldn't that make it easier on the tranny. I have had my maggie on for about 10-12k miles and I have made about 20 passes and usually do my occassional street races. It is stock except for a shift kit and servos. I also change my tranny fluid about 3 times since I have had the maggie. Temp has never been above 180 and maintains at about 140 always. So is it worth it for me to even upgrade to a 80.
The 65E isn't a P.O.S., it just weaker, as opposed to 80E. Has a lower TQ. capacity. On the upside is that 3.06 1st & weighs less.
The 80E's downsides I see are the 2.48 1st & weight. Some on here say that don't notice issue w/. 2.48 takeoff, others do. But if goin up in smoke, it may help some that have the power. I see no other, besides my truck not havin 1.

I forgot to say, ratios vary from ea. as well. By that, 2.48-1.48 2nd on 80E & so on. 60/65 drops more going into 2nd. Look into both trannies further if ya wnna see what I mean.
The 80E is just tough & it's where enthusiasts go as a leaving off point from 60/65E. GM never offered a trans that is a go between the 6x series & the 80E. So I look at it as 1 or the other.

So, are u idling outta the hole, cause u have traction issues? Sound like it. I'd like that babying outta hole would be easier on tranny, any tranny. But I'm no expert.
You said tranny fluid's been changed 3x since Maggie. Why so much? Lotta miles or just a stickler on preventive maint.? Don't get me wrong, regular intervals are good.

On my ta I thought about the 4l80e swap. I had 3.73s on 26 with 4l60e with 3.06 first. To launch with the same gear multiplication. I would have to run a 4.56 rear with the 4l80e and 2.48 first. Just some food for thought.

I done 3 oil changes. 1 was because it was never done,2 was a shift kit and 3 was I installed a drain plug. My maggie builds boost right away so if I cannt launch hard plus I'm on radials. All the maggie ss truck guy I've talked to and from what I've read said just to come off idle. I've tried to give it some rpms around 1000-1300 or so and it just spins, have to get off the throttle and get back into it. My best times are idling of the hole.

Also I don't really abuse on my tranny. My typical day is a 60 mile round trip to work and back, all highway. I might race here and there on the highway and its from 70 till ?. Haven't really raced in the street from the hole. At the track, like I said I launch from idle and get into it and its the 1/8 mile, haven't taken it to the 1/4 yet. I'm thinking based on my driving that the 65 will be just fine. I know I'm on borrowed time with my stocker but its been good for the time its had the maggie behind it 10-12k miles.

JUst so u know, their is a lower gearset offered that I believe turns 1st into a 2.75 ratio. It sure isn't cheap, but an option. Myself, I wouldn't go to a 4.56 rear.

Just curious, whatdaya get for MPG? Sounds like based on your drivin habits, a built 65E should do. Your call.

The way I drive I average around 17-20. Also depends on how many time I go into boost.
