Some fluid fill specs are up to 1/2 inch below the fill hole. You might check factory fill guidelines to be sure, although I doubt it will fix a medium to large leak. I would also get the prop shaft balanced/straight as soon as possible. That may be throwing the seal around faster than it can stay on. I was thinking a plugged vent too but you checked that.
