You want it to be negative because thr pinion will point up when you're on the gas pedal. -1 or -2 degrees should be good.

i THINK 7* of operating angle is what they say the max is. look into it before taking my word. make sure you are measuring all of these angles on the ground with the suspension loaded. and on a flat surface

Hmm... I'll probably go with 6* shims then. What width do I need, 2.5"?

You are still missing half the equation. You need to measure the angle of your slip-yoke. In your case if your pinion is pointing up 3* then you want your output pointing down 4* the one degree difference is to account for spring wrap when on the throttle.
