Pitman arm on a 2001 4wd
#11
Get an actual pitman arm puller. You can get one for like 20 bucks from a parts store. If that fails. My regular procedure at work on 2500 trucks is to use a cut off wheels and slice a section of it. Then use a big chisel and hammer and hit the slit you made it should cause it to spread and with some force come off. If you use this method it is ok if you go through the pitman arm into the gearbox spline (as long as its not to deep and jagged) the new one should still fit right on.
I have done about 40 of them since i started working at the place im at. About 1/3 of them came of with the tool the rest was a combo of cutting and using the tool.

Well i got mine done. Took me like 3hrs. I loosened my steering box so I could move it enough to get my puller on it and I couldn't get enough stank on it to get it to budge "I should of just did the cut chisel method but, I didn't". So I took the whole steering box out to the vise. Got the puller back on it tight with 2 wrenches 13/16 & 7/8 end to end, ended up bending the 13/16 craftsman professional. After hitting it with the air hammer with all the tension on the puller she popped off! Got it all back together cool and noticed today my steering wheel is not straight when driving straight WTF! Is the new pitman arm clocked different than the old one? It's a moog.. What do you guys think?
