Exclamation Popping sound when turning

I have a 00 Sierra. The past few weeks I've noticed that almost every time that I make a turn while driving there is a popping sound that is pretty loud. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side front tire area but I can't tell for sure. I looked around and couldn't find anything loose but I did find a boot that is ripped on both sides of the truck...could this be causing it? How hard would it be to replace the boots? Thanks for your help!

Your CV shaft is bad....

Its the thing right behind the arrow you've drawn, but probably on the passenger side if thats where the noise is coming from. That picture looks like your drivers side?

I just changed mine...takes about 10mins a side...whole unit comes off from boot-boot, just have to take the end link off to make room. Costs about $60 each with core exchange (wholesale - maybe $85-100 full retail). Could also be the locker binding in th rear...I thot it was front when that happened to me!

Might be a dumb question but how exactly do I check the bj's?

Any way to tell for sure if it's the cv shaft? Yes that is the driver's side.

I've also had a few people say it could be the inner tie rod....Thanks for the help!

Is it a single solitary pop, or a series of clicks/pops? A CV joint will usually make a bunch of clicks while turning and accelerating, but usually the boot will be torn first and the grease will have run out of it. There still could be a problem with the joint, but what I described are the common symptoms. Jack up the front end and check for looseness and play in the steering components. You could even run it in 4wd (with all 4 wheels off of the ground), and turn the wheel while doing so to see if you can reproduce the noise.

Sometimes it a single "pop" but it also pops 2 or 3 times in a row occassionally.
