POSI Answer needed Yes/No
I have a 2002 Tahoe 4X2. Looking to replace the diff. with an Eaton but need to know for sure.... Do I have a 30 spline axle 8.5" 10 bolt? I counted the 10 bolts, so I'm pretty good on that but the others I'm not sure.
Thanks,
Chris

I was told that the used Eaton posi I am looking at will require new side bearings, and a rear cover gasket, and synthetic gear lube for the reaar diff. Does this sound like all I will need, also does Timken sell these parts seperate or would I have to buy an entire rebuild kit? How much $$?

If your differential is quiet and in good shape all you need is new 8.6 carrier (2) bearings/races,re-use your selective shims.8 out of 10 time you will not need to change the shims for the correct backlash.Do not use sythetic gear lube, use 2 bottles of Ford posi additive XL3.Vavoline make a blended gear lube that works well.

The factory shims are one piece, and not a selective shim pack. Chances are they will not work with the new case. Also, the bolts are not designed to be re-used, so they should always be replaced. Better to have everything you need than start working and not have it.
