I was told it is most likely the rack & pinion that got damaged. So looks like I'm gonna be spending an extra 250 at my neighborhood friendly autozone

My shop very rarely puts reman pumps on anymore. Its almost a guarantee that it will get sent back as a defect. But you should also diagnose and fix your leak as well before replacing the pump otherwise you will damage the new pump by running it low. Did you bleed the system after you installed the pump?

It was a duralast pump. And no I didn't blead it before cause I forgot. I blead it afterwards. Everything in place is new, the pump, rack & pinion, and outer tie end rods so now just to fill it and hope for the best.
