Default pricing from the gear man

I went to get an estimate to get my rear end done, so the guy told me it would be 900 for tru trac, 3.73 oem take out gears, bearings and labor. what do you guys think?? he would also be keeping my 3.42's with open carrier

Not too bad, the trutrac alone is what, $400+? Gears, install kit, fluids, bearings is right around $250 ..leaves $250 for labor, which is what most charge for just a gear install.

Why 3.73's and not 4.10's though? And you said "3.73 take outs" ..as in used? If they are used then no, buy your own gears. My friend on here just paid $215 for new 4.10s and install kit from Rons Machining.

not sure on your tire size but for a 27 inch tire at 65mph its a gain of about 250 rpm, you wont even notice a difference at low speed and on acceleration.

3.42's to 4.11's will gain you about 550 rpm at 65mph with a 27" tall tire...

what size are your tires? I would skip 3.73s and go 4.10s or lower. Mechanical advantage is the best.

told ya at the bbq man,
the gear man in garden grove charges about 350 for the install.
just buy the gears, tru-trac, and master install kit. i bought mine from rons machine shop. he is a vendor on this site, plus its free shipping.
first page says what you need if you want oem gears. give him a call. they arrive in like 2 days.

Hello, we can offer the following package:

1- GM 8.5 4.10 OEM gear
1- GM 8.5 Truetrac
1- GM 8.6 master kit

Total: $664.99

by my calculation it will come out to about 1K total with the install BUT they will be new gears AND you get to keep your 3.42s and carrier.

If you have the time, save some money and do it yourself. My first gear change I done was, single trac to posi, with 373. I watched all of the youtube videos and how to make sure the match up was right. All worked out okay. Saved me alot of money.
