Question about GM's "locker"
I have 2006 Silverado with 3:73's and a rear end locker from the factory. What locker is in there? Is this just a GM product???
Just curious if I would benifit from an Eaton or not.
Thanks!
Nick

I had one in my last truck for 2 years with no problem but if you're going to mod for power then change it out when you do a gear swap.

Don't think I'll be swapping gears. I have 3:73's right now and GM locker. Just curious what GM used as a locker. Sounds like it might be worth while to go ahead and replace it when the funds are right.
I want to start beefing up the weak parts before I start modding for more power. Servo, shift kit, locker and a tune are the first things on my list.
Thanks for everyones input!

The G80 is designed for low speed operation(e.g. offroad). It disengages at 20 mph providing there is at least a momentary drop in input torque(e.g. a shift). So far I have been lucky with mine. Don't know if it helps but I never let it see full torque unless the wheels are pointed straight ahead. Seems that some of the broken G80 stories I have read involve hammering it while going around a turn.

a friend of mine had a silverado with a g80 in it and he destroyed it giving it some gas around a turn (not full throttle) and it went kaboom! he wasnt very hard on the truck either

Mine stayed locked the other morning while I was backing/Turning out of my driveway. It made some Horrible Noises. I'm suprised It didn't snap something. 2nd time it has happened. But it seems to drive fine still. maybe it's on it's way out

Mine lasted for five years total, but the last three is when I was really testing it.
It will fail, but how long it lastest really depends on how you drive...... Parish had a g-80 when he broke the 1000hp mark.........
