Default question about a tbstall..

tried searchin for an answer before postin but wasnt able too find 1..
im just wonderin if a tb stall will hurt top end performance any..and how do these stalls behave from about a 25 roll and 50 roll hear good and bad some say you lose rwhp some say you benefit from a roll as well as from a stop..

i know this isnt the best choice out there..but i only have a lil 4.8 with bolt ons that will probly stay that way for a while..
also i can get this stall for 120 with warranty

thanks

I've got almost the same exact mods as you except obx headers si/do flowmaster I tuned it and right now it's open rear with 3.42's
I put the tb converter and shift kit with servos in and couldn't be happier with the 4.8
On a dyno you loose a little with any converter thats looser than stock from what I understand but you won't notice that on the street

glad to see some one that actually likes the tb stall,
did you notice a difference from roll racing?

I had a tbtc for a while and I liked it,great bang for the buck mod.,I just moved on to bigger and better things. It will not change your top end at all though, but you might lose a litte economy in town, but not much with that converter.

as long as the top end stays the same thought the stall would hurt it

The stock truck converter is an 1800rpm stall speed. The TB/envoy is 2400rpm behind the 4.2L and shouldn't be much different behind the 4.8... 25-2600 at most I'd say and that's at WOT. It's still a large 12" converter so you shouldn't lose much top end. A couple of my family members have 4.2 envoys and i drive them quite often. The TC is softer off the bottom versus the truck, but not anywhere as "lose" as a 10-inch converter of similar stall speed... even at 1/2-3/4 throttle in the envoy it barely stalls above 2100rpm. it feels VERY similar to the truck converters above about 3500rpm. Under that you will notice slightly softer shifts at part throttle due to the stall speed.

We put a corvette servo in my brother's envoy and it made a good difference in the 1-2 and 2-3 part throttle shifts, it's almost like a stock full size truck it just shifts at 3-400rpm higher on average (i know it's due to the difference in programming, not the TC). but it will rip on the WOT shifts very similar to your stock converter.

With that said, i don't know how strong the TB/env converters are compared to the truck's so be weary if you suddenly get a wild streak and want to throw a lot of mods at the engine.

thanks for the info man, yeah if it acts similiar to a stock converter thats great.. im gonna be where im at now performance wise for a while so it should stand up to my 4.8, and torque wise my bolt on 4.8 should have a good amount more then a 4.2.. was hopin for 2600-2800 but maybe thats hopin for to much lol, when u say softer shifts will it affect WOT shifts? my trucks sratches a good 3-4 feet n i love it lol would hate to give that up, im sure a corvette servo will bring it back to life tho

The tb converters really drive like stock not bad at all and it will be fine for what you have. Its a decent mod for the money

That stall should be an improvment for you across the board. I'm not positive about the tb stall, but any yank or circle-d stall will help your top end significantly due to the improved shift drops. It should pick up better than stock from a roll, I wouldnt worry about it and just put it in. If it wasnt an improvment then you wouldnt see so many people doin the mod
