questions about 4L60e trans?
the trans is in a 1996 silverado ecsb and for it to shift from 1st into 2nd you have to let up on the gas pedal. A guy has the truck for sale and I was thinking about buying it to tow my jet ski. Wonder if anybody knows what the problem could be? Also how much to rebuild the trans?

just have to let off the gas pedal for it to shift from 1st to 2nd. Rest of the gears are fine. Guys been driving it daily and I'll only drive it to tow my jet ski. My grand prix has a weird trans problem as well but it's been that way since I bought it 6 years ago and she's still going strong after 85K miles.

That's $1000 off the asking price... How many miles are on the tranny? Has it ever been rebuilt? I would plan on the worse (having to rebuild it), you would be looking at around $1000-$1500 to have it rebuilt.

He says the engine and and trans were replaced. Yeah I'm going $1k below his asking price. It's a 1996 Silverado and I can get it for $2,500 I think. . The good thing is the engine has like over 40k miles on it and will be more than enough to pull my jet ski. Have thought about modding it a little, nothing major. Just cosmetic mods.

He called me today and said 2nd gear is gone. He took it to a trans shop and they told him it was gone. Price is only $2,100 now so I'm going to call around local shops to see what it will cost me to rebuild. It still runs but I'm sure it won't be long before the trans is gone. $2,100 isn't bad for the truck IMO. The engine and trans were replaced with a 40K mile engine so it should have lots of life left in it.
