My 99 GMC did it very bad I took it to my local dealer, they had the tires rebalanced and had the front realigned. That didn't do anything,The last time I took it in they had a GM rep look at it he told them to put a pinion angle gauge on it and get my pinion at a certain degree. I can not remember what angle they set it at,but they did use 2 deg. shims.

My 99 Sierra RCSB vibrated badly! I took it to the dealer 7+ times and never got it fixed, I just gave up. They re-balanced the tires a few times. Told me it was the tires and they wouldn't warranty them (only 20k miles!!!!). I put a set of brand new Perelli's on it and same thing. They replaced the driveshaft and so on. I also had a problem when I came to a complete stop, it would have a "slamming" action in the rear, like the rear end or suspension was loose. I gave up on that truck and got my '02 and have never looked back and have been very pleased.

Tires, Tires, Tires. I've had 2 vehicles in the past that I couldn't get vibrations out of until I put a set of Michelins on.

sounds like the slip yoke is binding up. yank the driveshaft, clean and check the splines in the slip yoke, and grease with some quality moly-based grease. should take care of it for a while. don't be suprised if it doesn't come back in 10-15K miles. there was, and still is, a problem with the material the yoke is made from, cheapo factory crap, and it binds with the splines on the output shaft of the tranny. supposedly there is a newer one that is plated with a higher content nickel available.

I had a bad shake at 120 kph that got bad enough to cause the aluminum tailstock housing of the trans to explode. I thought the driveshaft was bad, so I got a new transmissions and got a custom steel driveshaft for the truck. As soon as I hopped in for a test drive I hit 120 then whammm, bam, bam,bam the outputshaft of the trans had sheered off and the driveshaft was flailing around, oretty quick to since I had 4.10's. So 2 transmissions and 2 driveshafts have been trashed now.

I pulled the rear dif appart and found a worn pinion gear, adding a new ring and pinions solved all my problems.

I can now pull it up to 200 with no shakes now. An expensive way to find diagnose a vibration.
