Default Rear Brakes

Okay, why am I changing rear brake pads on my truck at 40K miles?

Noticed a squeak and traced it to the rear passenger wheel. Pulled it off then pulled the caliper. The backside pad is gone. Pulled the rotor off and I'll bet there was an 1/8" of rust on the pad surface of the rotor. I have read there were issues with the rear disc brakes on the trucks thats why they went back to drums...... maybe I'm finding some now. Too bad after the warranty is gone.

Update: Both sides... inside pads gone. Rotors were RUSTED so bad I had to replace them. New rotors and pads on.

I just had to replace mine on my '99 but I've had no problems up until now 193,000...I usually make it a point to look at the pads when the truck is in for a balance and rotation and at the last one before this one I didn't notice anything. I had to replace pads, rotors, and calipers. I tried just to replace the pads but the rear pass. side caliper locked up when I was driving it back to work the next day. I guess thats why it was the only pad out of 8 that was bad...Zed
