rear end goes booom!!
i was driving home last night and i turn the corner and the *** and of the truck locks up, pops really loud, and releases. i limp it home and HAD to drive it to work today. it is fine going straight, but yells and groans at me when i turn. long story short, the truck goes to the shop tomorrow for an auburn posi & gears. question is, i want to go with 3:90 gears, but the guy said it is hard to set them up properly so they dont whine because they are not an oem gear size. he said he can set 4:10's up with no whine because the are an oem gear size, so will i see that much difference between the 3:90's and the 4:10's?

Go OEM they are quieter. I have riden in a Yukon geared truck and even though the rear was set of many times to try and cure the problem they were always loud. There is a one tooth diff between the 3.90s and 4.10s might as well go 4.10 IMO.

ok, i will tell him to get the 4:10's tomorrow morning when i take the truck up there. the thing that sucks, is that i am having to drive to the shop, as i have no way to trailer it. i hope i wont cause too much more damage, as i dont know the condition of the bearings or the races. i would hate to damage the axle housing.

how much of a difference in et's does everyone typically see going from 3:42's to a 4:10 posi assuming i will have the raction issues covered? my best 60' last time at the track was a 2.19 spinning.
