Rear End Work

Rear End Work
I have a 2002 Silverado, 4x4 with a 2000 Corvette LS1 swap. The engine is doing great! I have a leaking rear axil seal. So there for i have to pull the shafts out of the rear end. I am not sure exacty what gearing ratio would give me the best proformance.
As far as my driving its mostly street, but no orginized draging. I do like to do a little beach 4x4, but not much. Can anyone give me lesson on rear end gear ratios, and what might be best for me.
Thanks

axle seal is a easy fix pull the cover then remove the center pin push in the axle remove the c-clip slide out the axle remove the seal install a new seal put the axle back in install c-clip then the center pin and retaining bolt install the cover and your set add oil and your done . gear swap is a lot more work .

Understand, I might start with changing the seals out for the time being.
But i would like to get a good understanding of what rear end gear would give me better performance to match that of my engine. There are different types of rear ends correct, one being limited slip or positive traction. What is the difference and does one apply to a particular application better than the other?
That is stock in a 2002 Silverado Rear end?

a posi is a limited slip there are clutch type posi like a eaton witch is a nice unit . There is gear type posi its called a detroit-true track witch is nice and a lil better choice if you drive in the snow . Then there are also locking diff like a detroit-locker those will give the most traction but can be squrly to drive on the street around corners you will also here it make noise locking and unlocking .
