When you say carrier do you mean differential carrier, or the center support bearing on a two piece drive shaft?

Do you check the pinion bearing races? The inner race will get gawled out from hard launches.I gather you have a bearing noise you are trying to figure out.

How do I fix it? Replace the bearings. I am not touching the rear end. If I installed some 4.10 can I replace them then?

Describe the sound,You now have a reason to hurry up and do the 4:10s.I am guessing the problem is the race not the bearing but when you go back in there do both pinion bearings and races.

It is only when I turn at low speeds under no acceleration. It is a deep hum. That is the best I can do.

Hey hey hey, lookie here. Don't go breaking open your rear end just yet. Just might need some GM fluid and some F*rd additive. Worked on mine as well, I would get 2 bottles of the ford stuff and then get the Gm dyno oil.

I agree, you need to put in the ford additive.Personally I like to use the vavoline blended gear lube. Its what Randy R&P recommended and have had great luck with it.

The pinion bearing noise would be heard while slowly getting up to speed, straight line.

So can I add the Ford stuff to the GM lube I already have in there?

You can but how many miles are on that lube? With the noise its making I bet eaton would recommend you change the fluid and then add the additive.I wouldnt use GM lube its to expensive. You do have a drain plug on the bottom of the diff.At least mine does.
