Replacing rear brake pads on '01 Denali XL
I'm trying to replace the rear brake pads on my 2001 Denali XL.
I've loosened the upper and lower bolts on the calipers operating under the assumption that the caliper would come off of the rotor and the pads would pop in/out. However, the bolts don't seem to back all the way out to allow the caliper off the rotor. Do I need to remove the two 18mm bolts that hold the whole brake assembly onto the hub or just the two bolts on the calipers? This seems like overkill just to change the pads.
How the heck do you change the pads on these? TIA

remove one of the caliper bolts. losten the other. then there are caliper mounting brackets that have to be removed. need a breaker bar or something with alot of torque to get them off.
sounds like you got it taken care of though

actually, I do need to replace the rear rotors. I fried them while towing and now I've got a pretty good shudder. the svc mgr at the dealership said that the brake proportioning was set towards the rears so it would be the rear rotors that are warpped. Makes sense as the front pads are maybe 1/3 worn while the rears were gone at 54k.
where's the best place to get aftermarket rotors?

i like SSBC because they make slotted rotors for a good price. they do not drill their rotors which can weaken them. i have a set on the rear of my truck
