Default RR Dust Shield? Dumb Q...

To change the shield do I have to remove the axle/hub? I already bot all the parts as the OEM rusted apart...about to change brakes anyways and will replace all e-brake...etc. How hard is it?

Mine are rusted also, just haven't gotten around to replacing them yet (figure I'll do them whenever I get a trutrac and do it all at once). Anyway, I remember agrief posting about replacing his, and I believe that the shields will unbolt without pulling the axles. Sounded pretty easy from what I remember.

Once you remove the calipers and rotors, you remove the diff cover and slide the C-clips off the axle ends. Then the axles will just slide out.

Look at the bright side to all this.....this will give you the chance to look inside your Diff and see if there is any bad **** floating around in there and survey any damage that may be present. Plus, you can clean the chunk up a bit and fill er' up with some new Synthetic gear lube. It's just preventive maintnence ( I think I spelled that wrong).

If you've got some new Dust Shields, hit em' with a good coat of Zinc Primer (prevents runst from forming) and then coat em' with some new gloss black. Overkill is wonderful thing when preventing rust...ha,ha,.
