Default Securing hose clamps?

Long story short... Screw-type hose clamps that came with tranny cooler kit worked loose from vibration. Hose under pressure came off, spraying fluid all over engine bay and headers. Big smelly mess with lots of smoke, almost burnt the truck down (up?). Anyway what is a good way to keep these clamps from backing off like this (all 4 I checked were loose)? Search was no help. I could bend any excess band behind the screw, but is there a better way? Thanks.

Weird...I haven't had any problems with mine backing off or becoming loose. Were they on tight to begin with?

I agree that sounds odd. I have never had a hose clamp come loose before.

The hose clamp didn't come loose, the rubber compressed and relaxed. You need to check them from time to time to keep them tight.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, seems there's more to the story. Not sure, but something smells fishy and it isn't the tranny fluid. Will post any discoveries.

Thanks Lord Aries. I may do that. I suspected (and still do somewhat, though I can't prove it) that the thermal bypass valve on the aftermarket cooler may have malfunctioned and cut off the fluid flow, thus causing the fitting to come undone due to excessive pressure. Some ballooning of the hose led me to suspect this. Anyway, because for safety reasons (happened in a dangerous place) I had to drive the truck with very little fluid for several miles, the tranny is now completely toast, with only 1st and 2nd gears, and barely those. More about this in another post later. AAARGHHHH!!!

Well, if the tranny is toast it doesn't matter much now, but the clamps you get for Fuel injection- fuel line are designed for high pressure might try those next time. Sorry about your trans.
