self installed 4l80e hd2 shift kit help please!
I few quick questions, I would like to know if anyone has put the springs in under the pump of the 4l80e and made the pump mods, or are you guys just installing the VB mods? My kit is an old school HD2 with gear command if that helps. Also do yo uneed to replace the pump gasket? I would think so if you break the seal

I did the pump mods with my install but it had to do with the PI converter. Came with a new spring for the TC lock circuit. There wasn't any mod to the pump associated with the Transgo kit. Yes I installed a new paper gasket.

Mine shows a hole to be drilled in the pump as well as the pack of 10 plus springs that go behind the pump

I'll look at my instructions again when I get home. I did not drill anything in the pump. I remember the springs, yes they go somewhere deep in the tranny and I did not install them but saving them should I have to tear into it.

The springs go in the direct clutch assembly. When I first installed the HD2, I did not install the direct clutch springs or the heavier intermediate stap ring. Mine also did not show any pump modifications other than the TCC valve which does not require removal of the pump. I would be curious to see your instructions that show the pump modifications as I have seen it done in other threads here.

If I remeber I will bring them home tonight and scan the page that has the hole to be drilled, how long did you run it with out the springs and thicker snap ring? Im just wondering if I should bother, the tranny is a really nice working 05, had very clean fluid so I am not having it built yet just shift kit. The only reason for wanting to install the pump mods is due to the 4000 stall and all the hard running at the track.

Mine was the newer style kit. I had the transmission out so I went ahead and pulled the pump and put a new bushing in, did the pump mods but didn't replace the direct clutch springs. I didn't install the thicker snap ring either. I figured I would save that and the springs for when it gets a full rebuild.
