Default Serious Transmission Issues Today - Serious Grinding Noise

Ok guys, little background. Had this transmission (RPM Transmissions Level 4) installed at 65k miles. Just turned over 120k and today coming out of a parking space I get this serious grinding noise. It goes away in 2nd or 3rd, but is there in 1st and 4th (D). Drove the whole way home in 2nd and 3rd, but don't know what this could be and am trying to get an idea as to what I'm going to be up against before I tear into this.

'01 Silverado with a 6.0 and 4L60E.

Thanks,
Andrew

OK, a little update in hopes for any more insight. Did some driving around the block this evening. I have the noise when I start off in 1, 3 or D, I think because it defaults to first, but hell if i know for sure. I get the noise in R, but only if I get the speed up a bit. the noise is completely gone if I am in 2nd. What the heck here guys?

Andrew I'm kind of scratching my head here because you say that the noise is in 3rd gear. Reason I say this is because the internal components should all be turning 1:1 in this gear. The only two bearings I would suspect would be behind the stator or between the rear ring gear support and the case. Maybe I read this wrong but are you talking abut the actual gear or the shifter position?

Vince, yeah, I was a little misleading. When starting from a stop with the selector in "3" there is the noise as I start out, but I think that's because I'm actually in first gear when I start. If I'm at a higher speed, lets say 45 or 50, in "D" I get the noise, but when I move the selector into 3rd the noise goes away So I get it in first and fourth gear and it goes away when I'm in second or third gear. I can get it as well if I go fast enough in R, but just backing out of or into my driveway I don't notice it, probably because I'm not going fast enough.

I'm going to guess here and say you have an issue in the rear planet based on when the noise happens. No doubt when you take this apart it should be pretty obvious as to what the issue is. I would think that you are going to see some damage in the area I mentioned above. HTH Vince
