Default slicks or drag radials

i am planing on going with the 315/60/15 "et street radial" drag radial(40lbs). they drive nice on the street and hook great at the track but i should look at all of the options before i dive in. this will be a 2wd set up with much weight reduction and some loose shocks. this tire has 11" of tread and is 30" tall

the other options i see are the et drag. there are lots of sizes that would work for me with this tire. all around 11" of tread and a choice of 30" tall(27lbs), 31.3" tall(33lbs), and 33" tall(37lbs)

as you can see i will drop a few lb's with the slick. as much as 26lb's if i match the same size as the drag radial. also i can pick a much taller tire if that would be of benifit to me if i go with the slick. there is pleanty of room for the 31.1" tall tire and even room for the 33" tall tire. really the 30" tall drag radial will still look a little short on the truck but better than the 28.7" tall nittos i have been running.

figure i can optimize my gear ratio and will have pleanty of power to take advantage of maximum traction, what tire will give me the best 60' time? will it be by a slight margin or would the taller slicks hook much better?

I feel that with the HP and torque you are making you will need the advantage of a wrinkle wall slick to hook and stay hooked when you hit full boost.

With all of the fans you have and all of the people you have helped I bet you could borrow up a set of each and decide for yourself. If you make it down for the memphis get to gether I will let you use my 29 inch drag radials with a 5 on 5 inch lug pattern.

I'd go for the full slicks, 28x11.5x15's dont hook the Wood Haulers 408 solid, but they hook pretty good. I'd go for the ET drags.

eventualy i will probably 4 link it and mini tub it and go with some really big slicks.

for those guys that go with slicks in the back. do you just leave radials up front?

I use stock street tires up front. You should look into skinnies for the front. It will be good weight reduction and it is rotational weight which is even better.

im going with the 315/60/15 drag radial as well since i will be seeing more street and less track time but the slick of coarse will hook better than the radial...and prolly will have to tub it down the road for wider tires like you are talking about...

i am thinking a skinnier tire for the front but not the ultra light weight ones. something like a 245/70/16. something i dont have to change out and can run with any rear tire.

Yep, just leaving the radials up front, its a little squirmy but not too bad.
