Default smoking rear axle after full throttle?

i have a serious off-and-on problem with my trucks' rear axle. sometimes after i run it full-throttle, or after a hard launch, i see blue smoke coming from under my left rear fender-well. i can tell it's some kind of oil being burned, but why? there are 71,000 miles on the truck, and i changed the gear oil with Mobil 1 synthetic after 50,000 miles. i also hear a deep whine coming from my truck (not sure from where) through hard cornering under throttle. are these problems related? anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

sounds like your engine is burning oil.... are you sure the blue smoke isnt coming out of the tail pipe??

pull the cover. the whine usually comes form the rear end. as for the blue smoke, i doubt its coming from the rear end. more than likely the motor. possibly the trans. look for leaks under the tans pan, oil pan, and under the hood. report your findings

How about a pinion bearing/seal and it's throwing oil under the truck and onto the tailpipe???
just a thought

you know, ever since i went from mobil1 15w-50 to royal purple 5w-30, it has been running poorly. maybe the smoke is engine related, but i will definitely look into it tomarro.

as for the whine, the first time i heard it, i was on the highway for 15-20 minutes at 75-80mph. i got off to stop, and got on the on-ramp, which was sharp curve for about 500ft. could the whining be a straining engine/trans? i just think i'd be able to hear the engine/trans better than i would the rear axle, no?

maybe but i dont think that would make enough smoke for him to see it. Hell we could sit here and make guesses all day just pull the cover. Then if it were me id slide the axles out and have a look at them.

could be a wheel cylinder going out and brake fluid dripping on the hot drum.
