Alright, so what is the concensus? I loved my 80 in my last truck and plan to swap it in the SSS, but I am waivering a little. Looking to make a 500 rwhp (blown LQ9). Will a fully built 60e hold it with moderately hard driving and a track pass now and again? I still think I'm gonna need an 80... I hate paying for crap twice.. or more, lol.
Luv my 80e...had it rebuilt once (dont ask why:nunchuk1 and its been perferct since...its everything else that worries me!

I'm not going nor have I ever said that I won't break an 80e. My take on it is after the initial investment and work on doing the swap that in the long run it will be much cheaper to maintain an 80e. Down time and probably parts. If you have a built tranny and it goes what do you have to do. Ship it back to the guy that built it usually. Couple weeks in that easy. The work necessary to get an 80e in that will hold the power I'm making I can do myself. Install a shift kit. Done. Already have a spare sitting here just in case.
Also the chances that a 60e blowing could also take out other major components. Transfer cases, drive shafts. Whens the last time anyone's seen and 80e split in half? A transfer case laying on the ground after it grenaded? I've seen that here in just the last couple weeks.
The 80e, IMO, is a much better street/strip behaved setup. I had read the posts and now have experienced it. It shifts smoother/crisper. Easier to tune to my liking, has a usable 1st gear at speeds less than 45mph and a much more usable power band.

with all things, it really has alot to do with how it is used. i'm sure alot of us drove around being as carful as possible with our 60's and never broke, then did the 80 and put the hammer down on it and broke it. i'm sure thats why i broke mine lol. my next trans build should take the abuse.

You can ask any of my friends, built 65E= i thought it was strong
i towed 6000# trailer with 5 Honda Foremans every other weekend goin riding in the summer, i wasnt easy at all on it. heck i would race my buddys 4.7 Tundra and whoop him, he was pulling his Grizzly on a lil trailer. 12000# ditch witch very carefully , tractors and even a mustang home from the track after i out ran him twice
Yank TT3000 would flash 4500 on a 2nd gear kick down. After 2 broken Output shafts, countless torque converter problems and issues with a broken pump few rebuilds and junk like that. A $700 4L80E with a HD2 has lasted long than all the 60s and 65 added together. I never complained to my builder either cause i know how i was goin to use the truck and learned my lesson. 80E is the cheaper route
