Stabbed the 4L80E today!
... went pretty well actually.
For those of you that don't know...
I purchased a 2001 4L80E transmission with 70k miles on it from a PT.net member who lives local. Great deal. This would be my first attempt at rebuilding a tranny. I spent months collecting tranny tools on ebay, purchased ATSG manual, followed blown3qtr's rebuild thread, GM Technical Service College 4L80E training CD, eSI, and LOTS of help and support from Vince and Chuck at FLT. Also want to mention JamesB
Anyway got the tranny rebuilt before the holidays... and just this week had time to stab it. NicD reflashed the PCM with the new file and fired it up. After about 8 quarts Nic started going through the gears as I continued to fill. Man was I relieved when I noticed the truck going into/out of gear.
The bottom cover will not bolt in place without me removing my crossover pipe. BUT... at least there is room for it. Not bad for guessing when I had the crossover built when I put the turbo kit on knowing I was going with an 80E eventually.
Its gonna take some time to get used to the 3200 stall. Also, Nic and I have some more shift work to do. I can really feel TC lock AND unlock... seemed to do it more than usual on the freeway ride home... or maybe I am just noticing it more as the lock/unlock, at least I think thats what it is, is rather abrupt. I wouldn't call it harsh... definitiely more noticable. Anyway just a little more fine tuning and I think I'm done...
... and now its time to work on fuel
BIG HUGE THANKS to Keith at Arizona Dyno Chip for renting me a lift. And thanks to NicD for hanging out and lending a hand... not to mention the PCM work.

Next on the black box list is differentials... I want to do one of those too. But I like my 3.73's... so that may be a project farther down the road if the diff needs freshened. I wouldn't mind obtaining a 14 bolt and doing a scratch build on that...
